Anglo - French

Designed for two of my favourite clients, a dual-nationality British and French couple, this estate harmonises two distinct landscape traditions into one cohesive vision. The design balances the structured elegance of a classical French layout with the soft, romantic abundance of a traditional English country garden. At its core, a scented lavender walk leads past delicate ironwork arches toward a central gazebo, alongside a crisp formal pond with a gentle fountain. A newly planted hornbeam hedge acts as a living architectural wall, neatly defining this formal French-inspired enclave and separating it from the surrounding grounds.

In contrast, the English elements introduce rich texture and biodiversity through sculpted box hedging that frames expansive perennial borders filled with classic roses, Salvia, Nepeta, and hardy geraniums. Moving outward, these structured borders give way to a sweeping wildflower meadow designed for native pollinators and a former paddock reimagined as a small specimen arboretum. By blending formal stonework, ironwork, and lavender with cottage-garden blooms and native hardwoods, the landscape sits effortlessly within its countryside setting while offering both intimate seating areas and long, scenic views.
